Sheet E-100 · Estimating
Run estimator
Turn a cable count and a straight run length into kit sections, splices, sleepers, hardware weight and the grounding count. This is an estimating aid only. Quote from your distributor and confirm against the assembly drawings.
How it counts
- Runs to carry = cables × (1 + growth %), rounded up. Above 12, the run splits into parallel trays of the same size.
- Kit = the smallest kit (4, 8 or 12 runs) that carries the runs per tray.
- Sections = run length ÷ 8 ft, rounded up. It never assumes a field cut, because cuts need ANDREW's written authorization (warranty §8(g)).
- Splices = sections − 1 per tray (bridge kits only. No splice part is listed for cover kits).
- Sleepers = 3 per kit, which come in the box. Protection pads under them are extra.
- Weight = kit net weight × sections + splice net weight × splices. That's hardware only, so add the cable weight from the cable spec for the engineer.
- Grounding = one bonding jumper across every joint, two tray-to-ground bonds per tray (one at each end), two lugs per conductor, and at least two coax ground kits per installed cable (antenna end and building entry). That's the conservative default from the grounding page. Your carrier's standard can add more.
- Turns: run each straight leg separately, then add 2 splices and 1 bridge kit per 90° turn (how).
- Doesn't count: elevation changes, step-overs, the hood entry, hangers, pads, grounding conductor length, the entry ground bar, or hinge jumpers at extension kits. Add those from the product list.
